Four days and four nights. An entirely different approach to wellbeing.
Step away from the demands of modern life and discover the fascinating connections between ancestral-inspired living, metabolic health, stress, adaptation and recovery.
Join Edelle O'Doherty and Bianca Wagener-Caduff for an immersive retreat combining the science of Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology with carefully guided Intermittent Living experiences.
THIS IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY WELLNESS RETREAT
What if the secret to better health lies in reconnecting with the way we were designed to live?
Our modern world offers extraordinary comfort and convenience. Yet our bodies evolved in environments that were very different from the ones we inhabit today.
Our ancestors experienced natural movement, changing temperatures, periods of food availability and scarcity, exposure to daylight and darkness, and cycles of challenge and recovery.
Today, we live in climate-controlled environments, eat around the clock, spend much of our time indoors and rarely experience these natural variations. We are also exposed to higher levels of toxins than ever before.
The Ancestral Reset is an invitation to explore what happens when we reconnect with some of these forgotten rhythms.
Through the science of Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology and the Intermittent Living Concept, we explore how carefully managed lifestyle and environmental experiences interact with our physiology.
This isn't about extreme challenges, restrictive detoxes or abandoning modern comforts.
It's about understanding your body, experiencing something different and discovering practical ways to bring greater balance into everyday life.
Ancient inspiration. Modern understanding. A new perspective on wellbeing.
'Longevity and health are not for free.
We are too comfortable. You have to earn your health'
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE
Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science
Explore the fascinating connections between our environment, metabolism, endocrine system, immune system and nervous system through Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology and Intermittent Living
Challenge. Adaptation. Recovery
Activation of longevity; One step beyond the need for calorie restriction
Become resilient against modern life, use its benefits, and counter its possible deleterious effects
What if the key to understanding our health lies in the relationship between our biology and our environment?
Our bodies evolved in a world of natural challenges — changing temperatures, varying food availability, physical movement, exposure to the elements and periods of rest and recovery.
These experiences helped shape the physiological systems that regulate our metabolism, immune function, nervous system and responses to stress.
Intermittent Living explores how carefully selected, short-term lifestyle and environmental challenges, balanced with adequate recovery, can influence these systems.
Through the lens of Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology (Clinical PNI), we investigate the fascinating connections between the brain, nervous system, immune system, hormones, metabolism and behaviour.
A Different Perspective on Detox
At The Ancestral Reset, detox isn't about juice cleanses, extreme restrictions or quick fixes.
Our bodies already possess sophisticated systems for processing and eliminating substances, particularly through the liver, kidneys and digestive system.
Instead, we explore the role of nutrition, movement, sleep, natural rhythms and metabolic health in supporting normal physiological function.
We also introduce the concept of metabolic flexibility — the body's ability to adjust its use of different energy sources according to availability and demand.
The Power of Challenge and Recovery
One of the central ideas behind Intermittent Living is that appropriately selected challenges, followed by sufficient recovery, may stimulate adaptive physiological responses.
The retreat explores this concept through education and carefully guided experiences involving food timing, movement, temperature variation, breathing and connection with nature and other humans.
The goal is not to push the body to extremes. It is to better understand how our bodies respond, adapt and recover.
THE ANCESTRAL EXPERIENCES
Rediscover the Power of Living Differently
For thousands of years, human life was shaped by natural rhythms, movement, changing environments and periods of challenge and recovery.
At The Ancestral Reset, we explore the fundamental elements of ancestral-inspired living through carefully guided experiences, practical learning and modern science.
What is intermittent living?
A unique program in which life itself becomes the medicine against ageing and its consequences. Longevity is no more than the capacity of rejuvenation and that is what we offer you; ‘Going back to the future’.
Intermittent Living is a strategy that recreates the ancient hunter-collector living conditions to which our immune system and metabolism are truly adapted, in a controlled environment.
Our research-backed methodology restores a dynamic balance, the perfect tonic for the stressors of modern life. Controlled exposure to low doses of environmental stress has been scientifically proven to produce beneficial effects. Discover how each activity in our program restores health.
Feast, Fast & Nourish
Intermittent fasting. Alternating between periods of fasting and eating on a regular irregular schedule. It promotes heart health, boosts memory and energy, and fights aging. Food is more than necessary; eating at the right time, the right place and the right frequency produces miracles.
Varied and fermented diet. Fermented food are those that have had their sugars broken down by bacteria or yeast. They improve digestion and boost immunity. Recover your gut health and recover your brain. Those two systems are responsible for the fact that you prevail.
Discover the fascinating relationship between food timing, nourishment and metabolic flexibility. Explore how our bodies respond to changing energy availability and learn about the role of nutrition in supporting metabolic health
Intermittent Hydration
You were 70% water the day you were born. (Today you are definitely less water than the day you were born). Water is the second most important nutrient for every human.
Drinking the right way is the way to recover your youth
Heat, Cold & Adaptation
Intermittent heat and cold. Exposure to hot air or steam in a sauna. Beyond just relaxation, there are proven benefits for the cardiovascular, metabolic and immune system. And controlled exposure to short bursts of low temperatures. This activity activates the nervous system, reduces stress, and fights inflammation.
Experience the elements and explore the science of temperature regulation. Discover how our bodies respond to heat and cold, and why the balance between challenge and recovery matters
Breath, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide
Intermittent hypoxia. A controlled short-term reduction in oxygen exposure. At the cellular level, it activates multiple protective responses in the immune system and the brain. A moment without oxygen and your body recovers resilience. Intermittent breathwork makes you more than resilient; it recovers health
Intermittent hypercapnia. Allowing a momentary buildup of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream. It has immunological, neurological and metabolic benefits. After understanding its impact and function, you will ask ‘What can’t CO2 be used for?’ Hypercapnia is a kind of panacea intervention. It is all about dose, timing, and frequency.
Explore the connection between breathing, the nervous system and our responses to stress. Discover breathing techniques and learn how awareness of the breath can support relaxation and recovery.
Move as Nature Intended
Training, movement, tasks, play, competition, and games.
Rediscover movement beyond the gym. Explore the benefits of walking, varied natural movement, and spending time outdoors in the spectacular Glendalough landscape. Remind yourself what it is to play and to complete in a healthy environment
Connect, Reflect & Integrate
Experience mindfulness, positive affect training, and deep learning.
Mindfulness, the practice of bringing your attention to the present moment without evaluation. It is a very powerful tool to overcome chronic stress, which is responsible for many illnesses Create space for meaningful connection with nature, yourself and others.
Deep Learning. Learn each day exactly what is happening inside your body as a result of the environment you provide for it. Learn about the incredible biochemical, neurological and immunological changes that the Intermittent Lifestyle switches on.
Reflect on your experiences and discover how to bring the principles of Intermittent Living back to your everyday life. The brain is the organ in charge of everything, knowing that everything is everywhere at the same time. Insight, can change both the brain’s and body’s structure and function - in the blink of an eye. When the Hippocampus understands; permission for changes is automatically given. Knowledge is power, wisdom is life
